A little bit about me and where I source my products.
I am a stay-at-home Mumma, we live on a 10-acre farm east of Gympie in the rolling hills of Goomboorian, where we tend to our poultry, goats, and horses. I homeschool my children and we live a slow, gentle country life where we grow food and raise meat. My husband and I and our 2 children value natural living and we’ve certainly slotted perfectly into the homestead lifestyle where I can put my permaculture skills to use.
I have always had a passion for organic living and I’m a huge fan of tallow balm as an all-round staple household item, safe for the whole family. Tallow has so many uses, not just for beauty purposes but for skin conditions like eczema, dermatitis, rashes, cuts and abrasions and so much more.
What is Tallow?
For those new to the tallow world, tallow is simply rendered beef fat, it is an ancient remedy that has been used for eons to create a multi-purpose product; from a wound salve to being part of a beauty ritual, dating as far back as Ancient Egypt. I slow cook my tallow overnight or until all the liquid has been extracted from the fat, I then let it set in the fridge until its solid and then melt it down while infusing it with organic botanicals.
I infuse for at least 5 hours to make sure the flower essence has really been absorbed into the fat; tallow is packed with benefits for the skin and is full of fat-soluble vitamins including A D E and K. Tallow mimics the skins natural sebum (the natural oils produced from our skin) making it a highly compatible product while boosting our natural collagen, seriously my skin has been silky and smooth since I’ve been using this, and I’ve noticed fewer wrinkles.
I’m not into the anti-ageing movement but why not utilize what has been gifted to us by nature to help us look and feel more confident knowing that our hormones aren’t being disturbed, and our cells aren’t being perforated with chemicals, I just can’t express how much this little beauty plays a huge role in our family, I even use it on my animals, especially the horses for cuts and the poultry to treat a number of different issues.
Where do I source my products?
As I have mentioned i am a huge advocate for organic, non-toxic living and I hope to weave this into the fabric of my creation. Firstly, the tallow itself is sourced from an organic, spray free cattle farm in the heart of the Mary Valley called Kandanga Farm Store, who raise and finish their cows on pasture only, they too share a passion for all things organic and local.
The Rose petals are from a local Gympie apothecary called ‘Vintage on Stewart’ where a range of flower petals and tea leaves are grown in the suburb of Tamaree, just north of Gympie, without sprays or harmful chemicals.
The blue lotus flowers are sourced from one the world’s last organic, sustainable, hand harvested lotus farms in Thailand, then packaged with prayers under the full moon right here in Queensland, Australia.
And last but not least all my sunscreen ingredients are sourced in Australia form various organic supplier’s, mostly local to Queensland but some venturing down the east coast all the way to South Australia. I also just wanted to clarify that I use non-nano zinc oxide in my sunscreen, which means that the particles are not nano sized, they are much larger so they cannot perforate the skin and enter into our bloodstream causing damage to our cells and disrupting our hormones, the zinc will sit on the surface on your skin and wash off after use, I also recommend applying every 3 hours or after swimming.
